Margaret Place is an adult-only ultra-boutique hotel that merges futuristic luxury with historic architecture. Designed and operated by young architect Trenton Gauthier, AIA, it is a living laboratory for advancing hospitality, residential design, and event production. Either as a hotel or an event venue, the property creates the feeling of staying at your friend’s mansion. It’s not for everyone, but for those who know™, it’s the obvious choice.

The historic 1854 greek revival home has operated continuously as lodging since 1862. The property consists of a spacious courtyard, kitchen, dining room, and parlor on the ground floor and six guest rooms on the upper floors. It was painstakingly renovated to National Park Service standards from 2015 to July 2020 to provide unmatched comfort while maintaining the authentic historic features.

The location, at the convergence of the Lower Garden District, Central City, and Downtown offers a uniquely varied and full experience of the city within walking distance. The French Quarter and Bourbon Street are only twelve blocks away, the WWII, CAC, and Ogden Museums are two blocks away, and the St. Charles Avenue parade route and streetcar line is less than a block away. Additionally, we’re situated at a unique convergence of the street grid where sixteen upriver-downriver streets compress to five distinct routes that open uptown, including the Garden District’s famous shopping and historic architecture for your exploration. Finally, our immediate area is emerging as a distinct arts and entertainment hub on its own, where mould-breaking operations like Courtyard Brewery, Arts District Bikes, and the Quisby take full advantage of our area’s “detached centrality” to, like us, provide experiences grounded in hyperlocality to be internationally unique.

Yes, we are ideally situated half a block from the main parade route. Moreover, our location allows for a great variety of parade watching experiences, two blocks uptown you’ll find tons of tents and cookouts, at the end of our block, you’ll find groups and families without tents, half a block downtown you can listen under the expressway where every band stops and takes advantage of the acoustics, and one block downtown is Lee circle, which is festival like and great for getting the most throws. You can also walk six blocks to Gallier Hall where the captains salute the mayor. It’s also popular among locals to watch in front of the convention center, at the end of the parade where some riders might “dump” throws.
Yes, it’s ten blocks to the French Quarter or twelve blocks to Bourbon Street and there are plenty of bars and landmarks you should check-out along the way.
Yes, we have two garage spaces on-site. We charge $30/night for either space and provide a remote for the garage door. The fee for lost remotes is our cost plus programming, $140 (remote has to be direct from Schweiss), so please don’t lose it!

We typically have plenty of free on-street parking right in front that’s just as, if not more, convenient. You can take a look at this map of the available zones.
We don’t sell late check-out or early check-in, rather, when the schedule permits, we’ll allow it for free.
Yes, we partner with Cleanerama to provide inexpensive same-day wash and fold service at cost.
We have a limited menu of in house options but we’ll also coordinate and deliver your ubereats or other delivery order at cost.
Unfortunately, our insurance does not permit guests to use our kitchen. Nor can we guarantee that we’ll have space available for refrigerating items. Our bridal suite includes a wet bar with a sub-zero 30″ drawer refrigerator/freezer however city regulations don’t allow us to provide any food heating equipment in guest rooms.
Unfortunately not, we could sell some tours if it were! Unlike two other properties I’ve worked on, I’ve spent plenty of late nights working in attics here and felt nothing. That said, our staff is game to help you pretend.
We’re very much in downtown New Orleans. In terms of crime statistics, yes, our specific area is one of the safer areas of town.
Yes, check us out on The Knot or reach out to our coordinator, Becca Kelly.
